Moving On

Since Sir and I broke up, and a month later I took Rick back, and then a couple of months ago taking Christianity back, traffic on this site has dwindled. My life does not fit the profile it once did.

I am getting bored with this blog, and want to go in a new direction.

I will be figuring out a new name, although I doubt I will be giving up the Amethyst part - I am Amethyst...lol And I will be starting a new blog, about gardening, parenting, the dream of homesteading, articles and information on self-sustained living, blogging about my own country experiences... And (hopefully) getting a camera so I can share Hick County photos with my readers.

I made some good friends here, and seemingly lost quite a few of them, but hope to take as many of you with me as will go.... And make lots more.

I will put a post here as soon as I get my new place ready for company... Until then, thank you so much for everything. Good bye!

(edit: new blog: http://prairiedreams.blogspot.com/ stop by if you are at all interested...)

The Day After

Independence Day in Hick county, everyone gathers down at the football field in the stands to watch the professional fireworks display set off by the volunteer fire department.
I suppose most people think that the crowds, the noise, the crick in the neck from looking straight up, and the mosquitoes are all part of the experience. Not me.

First we went to the little dairy queen-like burger joint on the west end of town and got ice cream cones. Then we drove the pick up past the football field about ½ mile, parked on a dirt road facing the field. Cranked the AC, put some music in the CD player. Had a fantastic view of the fireworks, without the people and mosquitoes.

We did pass one guy, retired, in his 70s, who pulled his pick up across the street from the football field. He had his small two man bass boat in the back of the pick up, and he was sitting in one of the boat’s seats facing the field. If that isn’t the redneck way to watch fireworks…..lol

For such a small town, and county, we have a very beautiful display. We usually don’t splurge on much, but we did buy a couple of fountains, and a couple boxes of sparklers, and one 400-pack of fire crackers for our son - He loves them! Some people down the street invited him over to watch their big bucks display, too… So overall, we had a pretty good fourth.

Independence Day

On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born.

The Independence Day celebration is no longer just a celebration of that day, it is also a celebration of all the people who have fought to keep that independence we created on that day.

To many, however, it is just a day of fireworks and cook outs... No respect whatsoever given to those brave people...

CMT aired their greatest patriotic Songs show today... on their web site HERE you can see the list, and hear clips from all the songs... Some of my favorite songs are on that list...Although the show was created before "8th of November" by Big and Rich was released, I'm sure it would have made it on the list...(See Big and Rich link in my sidebar).
