Happy Birthday

Today is the anniversary of Ludwig Van Beethoven's birth, in Bonn, Germany, 1770.

Most of the people I know never listen to classical music. I told someone once that it had so much power... and they looked at me very strangely... Have you ever listened to classical music on a great stereo system turned up loud? There is no music than can make me feel inside what I can feel with classical music... I love the blues, it has always been music I can feel, and not just hear, but it is not the same as the feeling I get with classical...Energy, and power...magic...
It is really undescribable.

If you think that you don't like classical, turn the radio to a classical station, turn it up, and listen with closed eyes and an open mind... You might be surprised.

(Edit: I listen to classical on a station out of Seattle, Wa. at king.org . I love this station!)

My daughter is a classically trained pianist. Everyday I was privileged to hear this beautiful music as she practiced her heart out. Now that she's grown and moved away... I sure miss that ole piano playing in the background as I go about my day...

Your daughter is so lucky! I took piano lessons for 7 years, but just basic stuff... Although I did love to play...My piano is so far out of tune now... It is being used as a place to stack my books...lol

My mother doesn't listen to much music... Unless it is Elvis, but she doesn't really listen to that either... I asked her once about all the great music that was going on in the 60's that she could have listened to... She told me she didn't have time for music... That is one of the saddest things I have ever heard her say...

I am a Mozart fan myself. I have a tape a former SO made me that we called my Wolfie tape. I absolutely crank it up LOUD, it's the ONLY way to listen to it. I know folks think I'm insane driving down the road directing that orchestra, but I just can't help but turn it up. It even drowns out those cars that have the vibrating trunks. ;o)
I also took piano. When I was in 5th grade! I really didn't know that I should like it. I never could get my hands to work together. I can do each hand separate, but not together too well. I'd love to take lessons NOW, when I'm old enough to appreciate them. My dad, he could listen to a song once or twice and sit down and play that sucker mostly perfect, just like that. Guess that gene skipped my generation.
I'm headed out to do errands. I think I'll put in that tape. Thanks!
p.s. I can't even imagine my life with no time for music. Really, how sad.

Beethoven is my favorite of all the classical composers.

Classical music is great, a lot of the new classical music I can't get into though, not sure you can even call it classical since it was recently created.. but oh well. :)

Most experts believe Beethoven was born on the sixteenth of December. The only documentary evidence is the composer's baptismal record. Of course, documentary evidence can be deceiving -- even inauthentic. We do know that Beethoven was baptized on December seventeenth, at least so the record shows. Some biographers maintain that Beethoven was born on the seventeenth, citing the fact that in the locale of Beethoven's birth, Catholics were customarily baptized on the day they were born. In any event, what we are left with is a few pieces of evidence, and an inference. As they say in the law, the question of Beethoven's birth date is a matter upon which reasonable minds can differ.

Matt - I love him too... His "Fur Elise" has been one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl...I like the new stuff, but it isn't in the same category as the "real" stuff...

Gary Freedman - There are a lot of famous people's birthdays that we don't celebrate on the exact date... This is the date I choose to honor him.

Jas - No wonder she's so smart! And I thought she got that from you... lol ;-)
